Adding a web part zone to the top of a WikiPlus Home.aspx page

Wiki Plus

Question

By default, the home page for WikiPlus (Home.aspx) will only have the web part zones WikiBottomLeftColumn,  WikiBottomRightColumn and WikiBottom present below the content when you edit the page layout. How would you add a web part zone above the content (to add a search web part for example)?

Answer

This can be done by editing the Home.aspx page in SharePoint Designer.

You will want to open the file in notepad

In the file, look for the line

<asp:Content ID="Content7" ContentPlaceHolderID="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server">
    <table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%">

And add the following lines of code just beneath it.

        <tr>
            <td id="_invisibleIfEmpty" name="_invisibleIfEmpty" colspan="3" valign="top" width="100%">
                <WebPartPages:WebPartZone runat="server" Title="loc:Header" ID="Header" FrameType="TitleBarOnly">
                    <ZoneTemplate>
                    </ZoneTemplate>
                </WebPartPages:WebPartZone>
            </td>
        </tr>

The finished result should look like this.

After doing that, save the page. This will add a web part zone to the top of the home page which you can add web parts to afterwards.
